Problem solving

 Magazine experimentation

The problem I had to face when experimenting with my magazine was that I included a practitioner and tried to explore and delve into the research the practitioner has created.  I didn't find much research on his websites or couldn't get through the pages as it was complicated to find.  I then decided to choose another practitioner called Neil Postman who works within the field of technology and how it can impact society. I also chose this practitioner as he relates to Sue Palmer as Neil's theory is linked with Sue's theory. As Neil's theory is what inspired Sue Palmer to create Toxic Childhood book.

I was struggling to find out how to layout my front cover. Especially what to include as my background. Originally I had a grey background with black text, however I decided to change it as I felt that it would not attract anyone to my magazine as it was plain. Which didn't allow my creativity to show through the front cover. I then changed the front cover to show some uniqueness, through the image that I chose. Some of the technical problems were the re-sizing of the image. And the applying the design that i wanted on the image. I struggled in changing the image to look more unique by changing the saturation of the image, as I had to make sure that it was not too dark for the reader and that my text would show. When working on my text for the front over, I had to make sure that the colour compatibility was readable, as I had to make sure that the text that I had placed for the front cover was legible for the reader and that my text would not blend with the colours of the background.

When working on the captioning of the image I found some technical issues such as when adding in the captions it will disappear when resizing the text box. Which caused me to find other ways to include the captions.

In the first image, I felt that that the yellow text on white background did not fit and was not readable. I searched up different types of colours on multiple backgrounds to help me have an idea of which colours to choose from. I used this grid and reflected on the colour choices that I had. Though I felt that it should still match with the colour of the text on the front cover.

This is what I came up with. I decided to change the colour into a darker yellow close to bronze, this allows the text to be readable and is much clear than how it was before.
