IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ PARAGRAPH BELOW:
The problem that I faced was when I was reviewing this page and I accidentally clicked on a button on the keyboard which deleted all the content on this page of my blog luckily for the evaluation it was saved on Microsoft Word however for the reflections I could not get them back as they weren't saved anywhere else, which I had then try to remember what I had done in each of those weeks and wrote what I could.
19/02/24
I started to create and complete my FMP proposal and timetable.
26/02/24
I started to plan my documents for my production such as a mind map, moodboard and visualisation diagram.
04/03/24
I started to collect all the elements I am going to use in my FMP. I also presented the Pecha Kucha I made of my topic. The feedback I got from my presentation was I presented really well and everything was explained in detail I was also told to include more research although I had already explained the different types of research that I had done, another thing that I was told was to do was to speak more clearly.
11/03/24
I started to produce the layout of my magazine and placed the elements I had to produce this magazine.
18/03/25
I started to experiment with my magazine such as deciding where to place the images and the text.
25/03/24
I continued to experiment with my magazine and was still deciding where to place the text and images.
15/04/24
In this week I finished experimenting with my magazine and started the production of the project where I made sure all there elements are in the magazine.
22/04/24
I then placed more text and images that I wanted to place that I didn't place already and focused on creating colours for images and text.
29/04/24
I also received feedback on the overall magazine production I was told to experiment a lot more with the colours for example experiment with colours of text and even images especially the front and back cover of the magazine.
6/05/24
I also received more feedback on producing more original imagery and I took a couple of shots using the Canon XD where I took shots of a classmate on his phone as it relates to my topic and I then realised the consistency of brightness wasn't broad so then took more and better shots in another area which had a wide variety of consistency with brightness. I then downloaded these images and chose which ones were the best for my magazine especially the background image of the magazine.
13/05/24
Finalised the production by including things such as the issue date and the masthead on every page as well as including the price on the front cover and a barcode on the back cover.
20/05/24
In this week I produced my magazine and reviewed all my pages.
FMP Evaluation
In my FMP my main focus was to inform my target audience and the effects of social media. The message I was giving is that there was positives and negatives in social media, for example a positive for social media use is that it helps you connect with friends and family. Additionally, a negative is that an individual may experience poor moods from long use of social media. My target audience was broad, which included teenagers, parents, teachers, psychologists, and sociologists. This would be teenagers of every race, ethnicity, religion, gender etc. My project is relevant to my audience as it can advise parents of the pros and cons of social media use, it can help a teenager experiencing negativity in social media and teachers can use this to educate teenagers. I focused on making a magazine as I thought it was the best way to showcase my research and information about the practitioners in this field. My final product will help me in the future as gained invaluable skills and experience in time management skills, my technical abilities in the use of Adobe software’s and taking pictures using the Canon XD and my research skills. It’s a project that I am passionate about as this topic affects most people my age and I wanted to gain a further understanding of this. I attracted my audience to my magazine by including eye-catching images. For example, for the front cover, I used an image of a teenagers to allow other teenagers to feel they have something they relate to.
The primary research I carried out was a survey to my peers using Microsoft forms. I found that the majority of people use social media for two hours a day. In another question I found out that 50% of participants had experienced negative feelings about themselves whereas the other 50% said they didnt feel any negative feelings. The majority of participants stated that they first used social media when they were between the ages of 13-15. The majority of the participants have also stated that they did not feel any kind of jealousy towards other people on social media. The majority of participants have stated that they didn’t experience any negative feelings during or after using social media. The secondary research I carried out came from the UK parliamentary website where I got facts and statistics from, for example 90% of children aged between 5-15 use the internet and also 5–15-year-olds use screens for 12 hours every week. I also got from the website that the positives of social media can help teenagers to connect with friends and family and I got the negative effects of social media. Another piece of secondary research I got was about practitioners who conducted research about social media. I have researched my target audience through websites that include facts and statistics from surveys that were carried out by Ofcom. I have included the following convention in my magazine: Masthead, headings, captions, pull quotes, page numbers, issue date, rules and guides, images, typefaces, font sizes, colours, drop cap and subheadings. I planned my magazine very well through creating a timetable, writing my weekly reflections, and analysing similar magazine covers and spreads, I also received feedback from my teachers which plan what I needed to do on the day. I received feedback from my peers who said they found my magazine very informative. I received constructive feedback stating I should improve the layout of the images used as they were small. I then increased the image size, and it made a big difference.
Overall, I think the process of making my magazine was a success as I am happy with the final product. There were some challenges making the magazine however I think I used my skills to overcome this. For example, I had to change one of the practitioners I studied as I was unable to find much research on him. However, I was able to research another one quickly and the new practitioners, Neill Postman linked to the other practitioners, Sue Palmer so it worked out well in the end. Also, I originally used images from online where I would edit them using Adobe Photoshop however, I was informed I had to use original imagery. I then took time out to take these images. I think this worked well as I was able to showcase my camera and editing skills. Lastly, the feedback received by my peers and teachers helped me make relevant changes to my magazine. For example, the image used on the front cover was not edited. I was given feedback to edit this using Adobe Photoshop. I was then able to edit this, by changing the colour saturation and hue. This allowed the colours of the image and the effect of the colour which enhanced its overall appearance.
